The University of Nebraska – Lincoln, often called UNL, Nebraska or NU, is referred to as the flagship institution of the University of Nebraska system. It was established in 1869 as a land-grant university under the provisions of the Morrill Act. The main campus of the University is located in Lincoln a few blocks north of the Nebraska State Capitol.
The university is a Carnegie Research institution and a member of the Association of American Universities since 1909.
